Since its development in 1960 by a pharmacist who was asked to help prevent a nervous show dog from chewing and licking his coat, Grannicks Bitter Apple has been deterring dogs all over the world from chewing and licking. While primarily used to discourage fur biting, hair chewing, and to allow hot spots and wounds to heal properly, it can also be sprayed on furniture or children’s toys to prevent damage from teething puppies or rambunctious teenagers. Trainers even recommend it for pups with persistent mouthing problems. When our own pesky pup was a little younger and a lot less well-trained, we used it on our hands and shoelaces to prevent mouthing and chewing. Its non-toxic, has no offensive scent, and is safe on most fabrics and even wood furniture (always test on a small area first!)
